The Breakfast of Champions!

“This book of the [covenant] law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.” Joshua 1:8

Many folks often rush out into the day without having had any breakfast! I realize some folks may not eat breakfast nor feel that it’s necessary, but spiritually speaking, to miss out on breakfast with God spiritually, is like missing out on what many consider to be the most important meal of the day: breakfast! As a matter of fact, if I were to ask you what your favorite breakfast cereal was growing up, what would you say? For many, they would say, “Wheaties” which has always billed itself as the “Breakfast of Champions.”

Recently, I ran across this very old quote by Thomas Watson, while looking through some materials at home: “By holy meditation the soul doth, as it were, breakfast with God every morning.” WOW! What if we were to spend some time every morning having breakfast with God seated with Him at the table of His Word! God told Joshua prior to Joshua’s leading the Israelites into the Promised Land, that he and the people would experience success (mastery of the world and insight into its challenges; acting with Godly wisdom) and prosperity if they would read aloud, and chew over-and-over again, the word of God which for them, was the word given to Moses as we have recorded in the first five books of the Bible.

So, here are some helps to personalize and apply the Scriptures through daily Biblically-based meditation: (1) Pray for God to show you what He wants you to see as you read your Bible and then pray for the Holy Spirit to guide and empower you as you navigate through your daily set of circumstances based upon what God has shown you. Then, ask the Spirit of the Living Christ to cause you to overflow with the truths learned, into the lives of others. (2) When you read the pronoun you in the Bible, insert your name. (3) Journaling down what God shows you in His word is always very helpful!
